Searching for answers in space is hard.
One of UC Davis’s own is leading the quest to determine if Mars can support life. Professor Dawn Sumner, chair of the Earth and Planetary Sciences Department, is also a member of NASA’s Mars Science Laboratory. When the Curiosity rover launched in 2012, Professor Sumner served as the “long-term planner” of the mission, making daily decisions for the rover’s research activities and interpreting observations as they were beamed in from Mars. She continues to work as a member ofthe research team from campus while studying microbial communities in Antarctica.
Finding another planet that is hospitable to human life is hard. Supporting a mission that can make all the difference in another world through giving is easy.
