Tom ’79 and Karen Quaglia can’t thank UC Davis enough for the impact it has had on their family. Tom and son, Nicholas ’12 are both proud Aggies, and both have careers in their fields of study—Tom as a city planner and a developer, and Nicholas as project manager for Mercy Housing in San Francisco. The Quaglias have so many wonderful memories from UC Davis, ranging from a rare evening of snow in 1976 to Picnic Days with the kids.
“The Princeton Review referred to UC Davis as a place where someone can be themselves,” said Tom, adding that UC Davis presents students with an environment uniquely oriented towards growth and nurturing, and that the community never fails to rally around the students.
For the past twelve years, Tom and Karen have regularly given back to the university, because they know that UC Davis cannot achieve its full potential without alumni support. Their wish is for their contributions to help attract the best faculty and administrators, improve the facilities, and reach out to a diverse range of students who would enjoy a UC Davis education, regardless of economic restraints.
“When we find something that we like and believe in, it’s not hard for us to be generous and loyal,” said Karen. “All the attributes of UC Davis make it easy.”
Tom added, “Everyone was so generous during The Campaign for UC Davis, it’s wonderful. Hopefully in the next fundraising campaign the donations will double.”
These ONE hundred stories represent the people who transformed UC Davis through their generous support of our first comprehensive fundraising campaign, which ended May 31, 2013. Together, these stories are the ONE story of The Campaign for UC Davis.
