Legacy of Pursuing Excellence

Megan Glanville

Megan Glanville

Megan Glanville was just one semester away from graduating from the UC Davis School of Law when she was tragically hit by a truck while jogging one December morning in 2011.

Glanville was an active member of the King Hall community who was well-liked and respected among her fellow students for her warmth and work ethic. She earned the Witkin Award for Academic Excellence for her outstanding work in Criminal Procedure and had strong interests in health law and social justice issues. She planned to become a public defender.

To honor Megan’s memory and pursuit of excellence in school and sports, her family created the Megan E. Glanville “MEG” Fund to support a law student of high academic caliber and athletic ability.

Hayes Hyde

“We wanted to do something that would be a tribute to Megan’s memory,” said her father, “and I couldn’t think of anything that would be better than to create a scholarship in her name that would help other students attain what she didn’t have a chance to.”

Hayes Hyde ’15, the first recipient of the scholarship, plans to use her degree to practice environmental law and eventually work in policy making.

“I think that losing a child is probably the hardest thing a person can go through,” Hyde said. “For Megan’s family to take that experience and turn it into something positive is incredibly admirable. I’m very grateful for the scholarship and to have the opportunity to get to know them.”
