“Overall, I am motivated and inspired to support issues of access and success. In the context of UC Davis, I am very concerned about the access and success of students, and in particular, undocumented students. Collectively, undocumented students face tremendous political and social barriers to gain access to quality education. Most, if not all, aspire to further their education and, ultimately, serve the State of California and, hopefully, beyond. Undocumented students who have competed and earned the privilege of attending a designated Research I University contribute to the overall excellence of the institution, like UC Davis.
I also believe it is my privilege and responsibility to support others as others have supported me as a first generation college student.” — Rich Shintaku, Ph.D. (BS ’79), Director of Diversity and Inclusion
