Champions for community support

The Stallard family is renowned among Aggies for their bottomless enthusiasm and affection for UC Davis and the local community.

Together, Tom ’68, JD ’75 and Meg ’68 have spent considerable time in public service. Meg was a member and past chair of the UC Davis Foundation Board of Trustees and has served as president of the Cal Aggie Alumni Association. Tom is Vice-Mayor of Woodland, and has served as president of the King Hall Alumni Association and on the boards of a host of local non-profit organizations. In 2010, the Stallards were Parade Marshals at UC Davis for Picnic Day.

The Stallards have given back to their alma mater since 1969. Over the years, Meg and Tom have supported the School of Law, the Mondavi Performing Arts Center, the Cal Aggie Alumni Association, and countless other programs at UC Davis. In 2011, they were presented with the Charles J. Soderquist Award in recognition of their exceptional volunteer leadership and philanthropic work with UC Davis.

“I think it’s important to support public education,” said Tom. “Further, I’d say that it’s important to support affordable public education.”

Today, they continue to champion philanthropic causes for the university and the community. On May 6, they are participating in the BIG Day of Giving, part of the GiveLocalNow Initiative. The event aims to raise more than $1 million in unrestricted donations to local nonprofits, including the UC Davis Arboretum and School of Education.

“There is much to celebrate on the campuses of our great research universities,” Tom said.

When they were presented with the Soderquist Award, Chancellor Linda Katehi said, “Universities do well and move forward and become successful because of alumni like Tom and Meg.”
