Community involvement

Aggie parents Kirk and Carolyn Doberenz believe the opportunities you receive in life are directly proportional to the quality and quantity of involvement in your community. It’s something that they learned as college students, and it’s something they continue to do as UC Davis parents.

The Doberenzes, who are both active alumni at their own alma mater, happily extended their enthusiasm to UC Davis when their daughter Erica decided to attend. Kirk and Carolyn immediately joined the Aggie Parent and Family Association and set the example for Erica who subsequently joined the Student Alumni Association.

Through their Aggie Parent and Family Association membership and generous contribution to the UC Davis Annual Fund, the Doberenzes have enjoyed the various Chancellor’s Club events, facility tours, the Chancellor’s Colloquium, and the ability to connect with other families in the program.

“We decided to give because the whole UC system has been so great to us, and now it’s being so great to our daughter”, said Carolyn. The Doberenzes met as undergraduates at UC Berkeley, where getting involved in activities opened up many opportunities for them—they were both participants in Greek life, attended many sporting events, and subsequently made lifelong friends whom they still see regularly.

“We believe you should be involved in things, give back and help out if you have the capacity to do so” said Kirk, “we can all give in different ways, whether it’s time, talents or resources.”
