Giving 100 percent

Would you donate your entire paycheck to support a student’s education?

First-generation college student and his fellow senators of the Associated Students, University of California Davis (ASUCD) did just that. The entire student government group gave 100 percent of their paychecks to support the ASUCD Award Fund, which was created during The Campaign for UC Davis and helped raise more than $100,000 for Aggie students' education.

“I donate my time and money because I’ve seen these students, just like me, and I understand how badly they need it,” said Bottoms, vice president of ASUCD and leader of the scholarship program.

Bottoms recalls a scholarship recipient from 2012-13 whose dream it was to attend UC Davis’ internship and academic course program in Washington, D.C.

“Her parents picked strawberries for a living and she was unable to afford the trip. The scholarship helped her go and set her up to pursue a job in Washington, D.C.,” Bottoms said with a smile. “This is exactly how this money can change a student’s projection.”
