Giving Aggies a hand

An extended hand and a friendly smile.

This is how Bruce Edwards ‘60 connects with UC Davis. And it is why UC Davis is a better place because of him.

Edwards can often be seen meeting, greeting and cheering with fellow UC Davis alumni and friends at Aggie football games—a sport he played when he was a student. And, under his leadership as chair of the UC Davis Foundation Board, current and emeriti trustees were inspired to personally give a total of $1 million to create a matching fund for student scholarships, fellowships and awards. The fund raised an additional $3 million for UC Davis students in less than two months.

Edwards also extended a helping hand to UC Davis student athletes during The Campaign for UC Davis by making a $2 million commitment to Intercollegiate Athletics—the single largest philanthropic gift to athletics in the university’s history. The contribution will support operations and a possible expansion for Aggie Stadium, which was built in 2007.

“I get more out of giving than the people receiving,” said Edwards. “Now I have a lot of relationships with people on campus too, so it is very gratifying for me to come back. It gives me something meaningful to do.”
