Student Emergency Relief Aid

The awards are meant to cover short-term needs that are not covered by other assistance. Some examples of need may be tuition, rent, medical treatment, or other necessities that may hamper a student from succeeding academically or from meeting her or his basic needs. The awards come from donations by students, alumni, and friends to the Students Helping Students fund.


  • Must be a registered undergraduate student currently attending UC Davis
  • Must have a FAFSA or DREAM Act application on file
  • Must not have already received an award from this program
  • Must not have any unused financial aid offers (from the University) outstanding, including loan offers

Awards from the fund are disbursed through an application and review process led by a committee of students advised by staff who are experienced with financial aid and philanthropic management.

Applications are reviewed in the context of the immediate need stated by the applicant in relation to his or her records on financial need and other financial aid awards held by the financial aid office.  The award committee may also review UC Davis academic records. Applicants are expected to explain their circumstance in the application form, and may be asked follow-up questions by the committee.

Application and award information is kept entirely confidential. These awards are not loans and do not need to be paid back—they exist through the generosity and caring of UC Davis students and other donors. However, please be aware an award recipient’s status might change depending on an audit of their financial aid.

  • When you apply for an award from We Are Aggie Pride, you agree to the following terms and conditions. Please read them carefully before you submit an application. All applications and relevant information will be kept confidential. We Are Aggie Pride offers three different awards: the Students Helping Students Award, the UC Davis Stores Award, and the UC Davis Cap & Gown Award. These are three very different awards, so please make sure you are applying for the correct one or your application will not be considered.

    Applications for the Students Helping Students Award can be submitted anytime. On the other hand, the UC Davis Stores Award and the UC Davis Cap & Gown Award have specific application periods and We Are Aggie Pride’s Award Director must receive all applications for the award before the deadline posted for that quarter. Applications received outside of the open application period for either award will not be reviewed.

    Awards from the UC Davis Stores Award granted in any given quarter must be used in that specific quarter (i.e. an award received during spring quarter can only apply for your spring quarter course materials). Funds do not roll over, and your financial aid will be adjusted accordingly at the end of the quarter.

    Students are eligible to apply for all awards: Students Helping Students Award, the UC Davis Stores Award, and the UC Davis Cap & Gown Award at the same time. However, all requests for textbook aid must be submitted through the UC Davis Stores Award. The Students Helping Students Award does not currently support textbook aid. Likewise, emergency financial needs should not be asked for through the UC Davis Stores application. The UC Davis Cap & Gown Award only allows you to rent a cap and gown from the UC Davis Bookstore. Three separate applications must be filled out in this case. If you apply for the wrong award, your application will not be reviewed.

    Failure to meet our criteria for the award you are applying for may result in a request for more information, a referral to other services, or denial of your application.
